Roadmap

A clearer picture. One release at a time.

Receipt scanning, the barcode scanner and budgets are live. This page is what we're building next, in the order we plan to build it — and what we're still working out.

Android · On Google Play in the Netherlands and Belgium.

In the app today

Start with what's already there.

Free scanning

Scan before and after you shop

Scan a barcode at the shelf for Nutri-Score, Eco-Score and the nutrition per 100 g. Scan the receipt afterwards and every line is read on your phone, matched against more than 70,000 products and scored.

One category free

Budgets that read the receipt

A monthly budget per category: spent, remaining, orange past 80%, red when you're over. And the sentence that connects it to how the basket scored — "67% of your groceries budget, and 51% of it scored Nutri-D or worse."

Free + Pro

Smart Swaps, with the closed loop

A short list of the swaps worth making. Save one to your shopping list; the next receipt confirms whether you bought it and what it cost, both ways. The basket report nets savings against extra costs.

Free: unlimited receipt and barcode scanning, the top two swaps per basket, one budget category, seven days of history and one bank-statement import. Pro: your full history, unlimited categories, every swap and unlimited imports — €6,99 a month or €49,99 a year, with a 14-day trial.

Planning

Next releases

Plans, not promises: order, scope and version numbers can change after testing and feedback. Only the section above is what you can use today, and a Pro subscription buys what's in the app now, not what's on this page.

1.1 — Smoother everyday use

Shipped · 16 September 2026

The sentence comes home

  • The sentence that connects budget and score, for the whole month, on the Home screen — not only on each receipt.
  • When a receipt line is matched loosely, the receipt says so — and one tap, "Yes, this is it", confirms the match and unlocks its swap.
  • Follow-through prices on Home and the shopping list both ways, so a swap that cost more is never hidden.
  • Plain-language labels in the fix-match list, and a rating prompt after your third scored basket — never on first launch.
  • Corrections are buttons — confirm a match, fix it, or re-file the line — and the app only offers a confirmation when it has checked that a swap would result.
  • The receipt says when its lines don't add up to the printed total, instead of presenting a partial basket as complete.

Shipped as 1.1.0 on 16 September 2026, followed by 1.1.1 the next day, 1.1.2 on 18 September, 1.1.5 on 23 September and 1.1.6 on 24 September.

1.1.1 — Receipts read right

Shipped · 17 September 2026

What a real shop taught the reader

  • A total the camera misreads no longer falls back to the wrong line of the receipt.
  • A receipt photographed at an angle keeps every item with its own price, and the packaging-levy line is no longer counted as an item.
  • Product matching improved for shortened names, AH house-brand products, hyphenated and possessive names, and fresh produce such as lemons and cherry tomatoes.

Receipts you already scanned are matched again the next time you open them. A receipt that lost a line under 1.1.0 keeps that reading until you rescan it.

1.1.2 — Plan switching

Shipped · 18 September 2026

Change plan without cancelling

  • A "Change plan" row under Settings → Subscription. Monthly to yearly takes effect straight away: you pay the yearly price that day, and the days left on your monthly plan are added to the year. Yearly to monthly changes your plan straight away and is charged from your next renewal — the year you paid for runs to its end.
  • Alcohol-free beers now match their 0.0% product, and a swap suggestion never crosses into an unrelated aisle.

The app remembers your plan on your phone — Google Play never tells it. After a reinstall it says so and lets you choose; nothing is guessed.

1.1.6 — Read as written

Shipped · 24 September 2026

Receipts read as written

  • A label word the scanner glues to the next word ("BIOZOETE AARDAPPEL") is read as two words, so a sweet potato is a vegetable, never a burger.
  • Names with accents match as well as plain ones, so your shop's own crème fraîche wins its line instead of a stranger's.
  • A store name with "XL" stuck to it still counts as that store.
  • Fairer swaps: alcohol-free drinks never borrow an alcoholic score, and every swap rule was checked against the product database — rules that pointed at products nobody sells were re-pointed or dropped, and a mayonnaise is never swapped for a pasta sauce.
  • "Fix match" on the product page looks like its neighbours.
  • A receipt paid with stamps and card books the full amount even when the total line cannot be read.

After the update the product database re-indexes once, on the first unlock. Receipts you already scanned are matched again the next time you open them.

1.1.5 — Receipts add up

Shipped · 23 September 2026

Say when a match is wrong

  • "Not this product" next to Confirm — on the match hint, on the product page and on a line scored from the generic food table. One tap removes the wrong match and its grade from the basket, and the app remembers your answer, so the same product never comes back for that line. A line without a match can find its product from its own dialog.
  • Fairer grades: a bare HAM line counts as cooked ham rather than raw cured ham, milk is never scored as raw milk, frozen fries are compared with fries instead of crisps, and a variant the receipt never named — light, semi-skimmed, zero — is never a confident match; you get the confirm hint instead.
  • Receipts read better: a line bought twice keeps its name and shows ×2, the count column on Albert Heijn receipts no longer sticks to product names, and savings stamps appear as their own line so the lines add up to the printed total.
  • If the app cannot open its data file, it says so and keeps the file instead of starting over in silence.
  • Scanned receipts leave no plain-text copy on the phone outside the encrypted store. Earlier versions kept one in the app's own folder; 1.1.5 stops that and removes the copies.

1.1.5 also carries 1.1.3 and 1.1.4, which were tested but never released on their own. Receipts you already scanned are matched again the next time you open them.

1.2 — Less typing, more receipts

Following release

Digital receipts, bulk import, better matching

  • Share a digital receipt into Basket Vitality from another Android app — Albert Heijn first, Jumbo once its formats are validated. Never by reading your inbox.
  • Import and edit receipts in bulk, with progress and a clear result per receipt.
  • Shelf suggestions that know which shop you're standing in.
  • A small on-device language model for the two places matching falls short today: loosely matched receipt lines, and products whose name hides the generic food behind it. It ships only if it measurably beats the current matcher on our real-receipt corpus.
  • More scores for more products. RIVM has confirmed our use of the NEVO food table in writing; we are requesting licences for further Dutch product databases so that more receipt lines get a grade.

Everything here stays on the phone. Digital receipts are read locally, the same as photographed ones.

1.3 — What changes over time

Following release

Your own price history

  • Price history per product from your own receipts, on comparable unit prices — and a signal when a pack shrinks while the price doesn't.
  • Spending and nutrition trends across months, and a weekly summary you can export.
  • Budget notifications on your phone, opt-in, on top of today's in-app warnings.

Price history needs enough of your own comparable purchases to be honest; shrinkflation signals need more still.

What we're still working out

No release is committed for these. We'll come back to them with what the Dutch launch teaches us.

Connected banks & shared budgets

Bank connections and household budgets. Both need a consent model we'd be proud of and a cost model that holds, before we plan a release.

Germany & South Africa

The product database is Dutch and doesn't transfer. A new country needs its own products and receipt formats first; translating the app is the easy part.

iOS — parked

The app is built on Kotlin Multiplatform, so an iPhone version is possible. We'll decide once the Android launch has taught us enough.

Further ideas

Recovery options for your encrypted data, price comparison across supermarkets, deeper on-device explanations. Reliable data comes before any of them.
